Road to Marrakech

Another blissful adventure begins…

Aboard our Air France Airbus A-380, it’s BIG

It’s a double-decker bus, seating approximately 400,000 people with spacious overhead luggage bins.  We are in steerage, where the cordial cabin crew of 22, or so, serve…WHAT!!??  The wine was decent and was far more enjoyable with the CARE packages assembled by Bobbi (Camembert far superior to any cheese provided by our host carrier on five flights) and Patti (hearty tea sandwiches and assorted nuts).  I LOVE going anywhere with F/A’s!!

“Premium Economy [???]” is upstairs. They have a better view and, in the event of a crash, the poor folks below soften the landing.

5100 Study Time

Paris in the Fall…

Actually, we had 75 minutes to change planes for the CDG-CMN leg – just a short train ride and another pass through security to board a full flight (Airbus A320) to Casablanca.  En route we enjoyed “Guess the Mystery Filling” in our Hot Pockets – we quickly eliminated Mineral, but found ourselves stumped by the remaining Animal and Vegetable categories.

And then… we arrived in exotic Morocco!

Our able and delightful driver Rostom Ahmed Badrane (fittingly, Texx calls him “Awesome”)  cheerfully waited as we gathered our luggage (quite light because all of the ladies brought large suitcases with empty space – and a spare bag or two – for the shopping adventures to follow), exchanged some currency 8.527 Moroccan Dirhams (MAD or Dh) per US Dollar, and tried to get Maroc Telecom SIM cards for the various phones.  Texx’s iPhone 5 was a breeze (200 MAD for 30-days, 150 outgoing calls and a very limited data plan that locks you out when you exceed your daily limit rather early each day.  My HTC DNA Android worked for calls only – data worked fine in UK/Europe, but failed here.

 …then off to Marrakech!

5101 The Road Less Travelled
We take the road less-travelled, only 220 Km to go
About 25 hours after we left home, we arrived at the Bab Doukkala (“Bab” is a gate – there are a dozen or so) entry to the Medina (the old, walled city) of Marrakech.

It is dark.  We are tired.  Rostom has called ahead to arrange a porter, who loads our baggage on a hand-drawn donkey cart (with automobile wheels) for the 100m trek to our lodgings:

2. Marrakech Sights – “Jardin Majorelle “
